Chapter 6

This week in our reading, we learned about addiction. I tend to binge watch “Drugs Inc,” on Netflix and I never thought it would benefit me, but it helped a lot with the information this week! LOL. I know many people who’s lives have been impacted by addiction and it was important that we learned methods of approaching those with addictions. I work at a physicians office and I use a program called Patient Monitoring Programming which pulls narcotic prescription drugs prescribed to patients. We have a lot of patients that started off with prescription drugs prescribed heavy handedly by their physician, and then move to street drugs like heroin only to then be prescribed methadone. It is a viscous cycle and I think its very important for patients to do their own research and not take every word from a doctor as true. The opioid epidemic is claiming lives and it is important that we as a community monitor this.

This week for one of my classes I presented a lesson at Gilmore Elementary school in Brockton about the importance of healthy eating. To be honest this being done made me self evaluate. I consume way to much sugar and teaching kids about the importance of a low sugar diet made me reconsider my food choices. I have kept up with my workouts and my diet for the most part. All of the snow and shoveling kept me active for sure!
