Hi Guys, Happy Monday!
Since my last blog post I’ve kept up with some of my goals and activities. I’ve been keeping a close eye on what I eat (for the most part), and exercising regularly. I bought a medicine ball and have loved including it in my workouts. I went grocery shopping and stocked up on fruits veggies, and other ingredients so I would be motivated to cook healthy meals and it has been successful so far! Some of the meals I have cooked this week include baked zucchini planks, Smoothie bowls, stuffed peppers and other things as well. Almost every day this last week I did some kind of physical activity I even went to a yoga class last week. Sunday, yesterday I did cheat a little on my clean eating a bit because my boyfriend came home with ice cream, but where usually this would discourage me and lead me away from my goal I refused to lose motivation.
On the first page of chapter 1 of our text there was a quote that stood out to me, “Health is a process, not something we just get.” This quote is motivational to me because it expresses that health, just as anything in life is something we have to strive for. The reading for this week discuses the 6 dimensions of health, and how collectively these dimensions make up our well being. For this blog post I have decided to evaluate my six dimensions of health! The first dimension focuses on social health and the ability top have and maintain healthy relationships with friends, family members and even romantically. I’d rate myself pretty high as far as social health goes, considering I have strong relationships with my family, friends and significant other, however there are times when being social is difficult, especially in these winter months. I find myself wanting to stay in a lot more when the weather is cold and have to sort of force myself to go out with friends sometimes. The next aspect of health the chapter focused on was emotional health. This includes the ability to express emotions. This aspect of health is not my strongest area. I often find it difficult to express to others how I’m feeling and tend to keep a lot in, so this is certainly an aspect of health that I can work on. Spiritual health is the ability to find meaning and purpose in life. I am not lacking in this aspect of health and find it pretty east to find SOMETHING to be happy about. The next aspect of health is physical health. Physical health focuses on body size and physical fitness as well as body function. I am improving this aspect of health slowly although I feel I should be a lot more physically able for my age. Environmental health is the understanding of how the conditions of your environment can impact your health. I understand that environment plays a large role in well being, and I always try to care for the earth. The last aspect of health is intellectual health which is the ability to think clearly and analyze critically. My intellectual health is pretty strong as I always try to learn from mistakes and accomplishments.
The final topic I want to discuss in this weeks blog is mindfulness. Mindfulness is the idea of creating awareness and being present. I feel as though this is so important to every aspect of health. I plan on including mindfulness in my yoga practice as well as in all areas of my life to help me to remain motivated and focused on my journey. I recommend you all practice mindfulness in your journeys as well.
